Description

@stonebig

date: mid-may (free-threading push)

wanted:

  • pandas-3 everywhere
  • streamlit and numba on free-threading
  • Python-3.14 slim version 100% complete (as "deap" wheel arrived)
  • Python-3.14.4 free-threading complete at 90%
  • pylock.toml as the standard way to build with pip, requirement files still published this cycle
  • Python-3.15.0 beta 1 ... with some free-threading wheels ?
  • AI local
  • AI help to further simplify WinPython

remark:

  • numpy-2.5 will be more performant for free-threading than for multi-processing
  • community effort is on the pep-803 free-threading stable abi3t for 3.15 beta1, that will unlock binary packages
  • python-3.15 speed-up hopes (with pep-803):
    • JIT and internals: +10%
    • free-threading: square-root(number of physical threads on full cpus), so 5x end 2026
    • one time 10% bonus with tail call for 3.15 windows
    • ... so about 10%, up to 20% with JIT, up to 50% faster with free-threading
