Describe the bug

Environment

  • OS: macOS Sonoma 14.x (Apple Silicon, M-series chip)
  • OrbStack Version: v2.8.5.39966 (arm64, native build)
  • Installation Method: Manual DMG install (after multiple failed Homebrew cask installs due to network timeouts)
  • Initial Setup: Selected only Docker runtime, logged in with personal account successfully
  • System Resources: 16GB+ RAM, 4+ CPU cores available, no other container tools (Docker Desktop/Colima/Lima) running
Image

To Reproduce

Actual Behavior

  • After successful personal account login and initial setup, the OrbStack main UI shows the "Starting" loading spinner indefinitely
  • Status remains stuck for over 30 minutes with no progress, no error messages displayed
  • Terminal commands like docker info fail with Cannot connect to the Docker daemon
  • App does not crash, but Docker daemon never initializes
  • Issue persists after multiple app restarts and system reboots

Expected behavior

Expected Behavior

  • OrbStack should complete Docker daemon initialization within 30-60 seconds
  • "Starting" status should disappear, and Containers/Images UI should load normally
  • docker CLI commands should work as expected after startup
